Home

Military vehicles are welcomed to the firepower museum and allowed to park outside the front entrance.  If you would like to do this contact FIREPOWER direct

Visit the Royal Artillery – A special MILITARY VEHICLEand RADIO Weekend at the

Firepower Museum of the Royal Artillery at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, SE London

in February each year

ENTRY FORM BELOW

Firepower invite you and your vehicle to come and be displayed for the benefit of the public and in support of this special weekend display and the live operation of the Vintage Military Radio Station,
GB2RA, who will be looking for round the radio world contacts.

The museum Quad and limber will join in with rides around the area. Anybody offering a display is welcome, but please let us know what you can provide, by email or by completing the application form below. There is NO ENTRY COST and your display can be inside the museum by prior arrangement.  To provide something bigger there are acres of space outside.

There will be a live signals display using the Amateur Radio Call Sign GB2RA operated by members of the Vintage Operating Group(Call sign M0VOG) with both Vintage Military Radio and may be some slightly more modern Amateur Kit.

On Saturday evening an indoor BBQ is planned, costs shared, with the FIRST EVER SHOWING of some archive photographs from the former Arsenal and a presentation by a member of the Royal Arsenal Historical Society. These will be especially interesting to military vehicle owners, showing some of the varied activies formely carried out on this site.  May be pictures of YOUR vehicle!

Secured overnight vehicle storage facilities are available and indoor DiY accommodation in the former Military Academy Building is planned.  Bring your own food, or share ours, for the Saturday evening BBQ.  Facilities will be available on Friday evening and for Breakfast on both days, or you can use the market cafe 200 yards away.

This is the “first in Season” rally at an unusual time with warm accommodation provided.  Remember 2006 and 2007?– well the museum still holds the actual guns, from which the VC metal was cut and you can view these.. All your family are welcome, there is a leisure centre close by, as is the Woolwich Free Ferry, if they want something else and different to do.

Please aim to arrive by 10am Saturday (come any time on Friday afternoon or evening if preferred) depart 3 to 4pm Sunday.

Families welcome – Caravans welcome, so long as they are booked, in advance.

Firepower's own active, working radio station GB2RA

In June 2006 the museum radio station operated a special amateur radio call sign of GB150VC to commemorate the inauguration of the VC, by Queen Victoria.

This was a really special event authorised by Ofcom – unusual in itself and something that attracted radio amateurs from around the world.
A special “eyeball”contact card, known as a QSL card was available to visitors, you can come in and find out what it is all about.
Details of GB150VC and the special award certificate are now available on www.firepowerGB150VC.zoomshare.com

Details and photographs of previous radio events  may be found at

www.firepowervintageradio.zoomshare.com

Visitors, young or old, will be welcome to take part and use the radio during this special weekend.
Live, on air, contacts are anticipated throughout the world, although this will depend on atmospheric conditions at the time..

More details can be obtain by contacting firepowervintageradio@zoomshare.com.

Have a look at a similar event in 2005 at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, which can be seen at www.gb200t.com, when 14,000 worldwide contacts were made.

The Station is operated by the Vintage Operating Group (M0VOG) and is grateful for the support given by the Cray Valley Radio Society - www.cvrs.org.uk
